Computer engineering
Computer engineering combines elements of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and computer science to create a functioning overall system. Embedded in the global movement of maker communities, the HRW FabLab is strongly industry-driven.
The Internet of Things (IoT) can be experienced in a laboratory on the Mülheim campus. Design thinking and crowdsourcing are the principles of product development. Open source hardware is made available licence-free in the IoT lab and the FabLab in order to apply modern manufacturing techniques.
The HRW FabLab is known at the university as a learning centre for project and product-oriented courses. Students can complete project work and final theses and seminars and lectures also take place on the premises in the Prosper III start-up centre in Bottrop. Covering an area of around 900 square metres, the technical laboratory not only provides a home for students, but also supports start-ups and small and medium-sized enterprises to ensure a seamless transfer of knowledge between the university, business and society. As an offer for everyone, the open evening takes place every Wednesday from 3.30 pm to 7.30 pm, when the lab is open to the public. Registration is possible via the HRW FabLab website.
