Prof. Dr. Michael Schäfer

"Technical Computer Engineer at HRW"

After studying Physics at the University of Dortmund, Michael Schäfer conducted research at the FernUniversität in Hagen on the topic of distributed development of multimedia software. He later worked at the Research Institute for Telecommunications, exploring the early stages of the emerging Internet technology (1994) for medium-sized enterprises.

Two years later, he founded his own software company, focusing on microcontroller-based control systems and database-driven application development, which he managed as Managing Director for 14 years. Through this company, Michael Schäfer participated in numerous state, federal, and European research projects.

Since 1994, he has been a lecturer at the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences (joint studies programme of the NRW universities of applied sciences). From 2008 to 2010, he worked at the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences – Meschede Department as a Teaching Fellow, specialising in digital electronics, programming, and database systems.

In 2010, Michael Schäfer was appointed to the Technical Computer Science department at Hochschule Ruhr West (HRW), Campus Bottrop.
