PROForward@HRW
Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences (HRW) combines research, teaching, and practice to shape science in an applied and socially relevant way. To ensure that qualified candidates continue to be inspired to join HRW in the future, we are pursuing the project PROForward@HRW, which focuses on recruiting and further qualifying prospective teaching staff – from adjunct lecturers to full professors.
Through the measures outlined below, we also ensure that, on the one hand, diversity-sensitive processes and communication reach, inform, and support underrepresented groups, and on the other hand, innovative entry points into the academic career path are created.
Through the implementation of the PROForward@HRW project, Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences (HRW) is opening up new pathways to professorships and supporting the targeted qualification of future teaching and research staff for the entire region.
Also see the corresponding HRW press release "(in German)".

Our Goals
- Provide guidance on the path to a professorship
- Develop target group–specific programs
- Systematically qualify teaching staff interested in professorships
- Expand the pool of appointment-eligible candidates
- Sharpen HRW’s specific profile

Actually, being a professor is the best job in the world. You do research, work closely with students, and are constantly learning. That is incredibly rewarding.
With this project, we want to reach out to doctoral graduates from industry. They know the demands of the business world and could become inspiring teachers. And in the best case, they also share a similar background with our students.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Susanne Staude
President, Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences
The overarching goal and project vision is that, in the future, teaching staff will not only reflect the socio-cultural and demographic composition of the region, but also represent the student body in all its diversity and heterogeneity.
HRW Promotes Diversity
“A cliché-free choice of career benefits us as a university as well” // Initiative Klischeefrei: Interview with President Prof. Dr.-Ing. Susanne Staude
“In our degree programs, clichés unfortunately still persist today – in the future-oriented fields of computer science, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering at HRW, the proportion of women is still far too low. Yet we, as a university, are particularly aware of our role model function and attach great importance to promoting diversity among our students and staff – extending beyond gender aspects as well.”
