Advising and supporting employees and the organisation in their development

Personnel and Organisational Developmen

Stakeholders

Even in a university context, change is part of everyday life—whether due to changes in higher-education policy frameworks or internal change processes.
As a result, the requirements placed on employees are constantly evolving. New subject areas and tasks are added, or existing tasks become more complex.
Many stakeholders are involved and contribute to making change successful: the University Executive Board, line managers, employee representative bodies, the PE/OE team, the training coordinator—and, last but not least, the employees themselves.
Personnel development at HRW therefore does not consist of a single team alone; it is conceived and understood holistically.

Offer for employees

The Personnel and Organisational Development team advises the University Executive Board, managers and employees. In doing so, it supports employees in being well qualified for their tasks and the associated requirements.
The Personnel and Organisational Development team and the training coordinator build on employees’ individual needs and, together with managers, actively help shape employees’ development.
These measures are aligned with HRW’s strategic goals and focus on the systematic, innovative and participatory promotion and development of the competencies of all employees in teaching, research, technology and administration.
Personnel development at HRW includes the targeted, forward-looking planning, design and implementation of measures aimed at identifying and developing employees’ professional potential.

As part of the onboarding process, Personnel and Organisational Development organises events for all new HRW employees to make it easier to settle into the university. This includes the “HRWelcome Days,” during which new employees can get to know the campuses in Mülheim and Bottrop, gain insights into current research projects, and network with one another.

Personnel and Organisational Development supports managers with various services, such as executive coaching or training on a range of leadership topics.

Professors:

A wide range of opportunities for (prospective) professors is provided by the Unit for Higher Education Didactics as well as the Pro Forward project (testing new pathways into a professorship).

Academic employees:

As part of a comprehensive professional development concept, we offer a diverse selection of seminars and workshops. The aim is to specifically qualify our academic employees and strengthen their competencies.

The internal HRW portal always contains the most up-to-date information on upcoming events and new content.

In workshops and training sessions, HRW employees can acquire and share knowledge, develop skills and competencies, and try new things together with colleagues. To this end, HRW designs needs-based and target-group-specific training courses and workshops. The Personnel and Organisational Development team advises employees on their requirements, questions and needs, and offers support in sustainably integrating the competencies developed into concrete work processes and thus into everyday working life.

Within Personnel and Organisational Development, HRW offers a holistic and comprehensive advisory and support service, which is continuously reviewed and adapted to the current needs of the university and its employees.

This includes not only individual support, but also support for teams in their development.

Team development is the key to successful and productive collaboration. With targeted team development measures, we not only strengthen team spirit, but also work together to define clear goals, roles and responsibilities.

Through internal workshops and targeted training, we promote open communication and create a working environment in which all team members can thrive.
