Application Tips

Tips and information on the application process.

Your application

Are you interested in working at Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences (HRW) and would like to apply?

To support you with your application, we have compiled some tips and information for you.

Meaningful and complete documents

Make a strong impression with your documents from the very start.

Please make sure to include the relevant, meaningful documents listed below as attachments to your application:

  • CV (curriculum vitae)
  • Training certificates and/or academic certificates/diplomas
    • for an apprenticeship position: your most recent school report
  • Employment references and, if applicable, proof of internships
  • for a professorship: an overview of your teaching and research experience
  • if applicable, proof of severe disability/equal status

A cover letter is not considered outdated or unnecessary at HRW. In an individual cover letter, applicants can draw attention to themselves and stand out from other candidates.

Take advantage of the opportunity a cover letter offers.

Ablauf des Verfahrens

After the application deadline, we review your documents and, where required, involve our staff representative bodies.

Delays may occur if the documents are incomplete and we need to follow up with you. This can take several weeks—generally at least six weeks.

We strive to get back to you as quickly as possible.

After reviewing the applications, initial aptitude tests and interviews take place, to which we may invite you.

Reviewing the documents after the application deadline may take several weeks or months.

From the applications received, the appointments committee selects several suitable candidates for subject-specific interviews and trial teaching sessions.

Following the selection process, the appointments committee determines the group of candidates eligible to be shortlisted and commissions expert reports.

This results in an appointment proposal, which is submitted to the department council and the university management.

You can find further information on appointment procedures in our guide to the appointment process.

To help you plan, our job advertisements already state the date on which interviews are scheduled.
