Health and Medicine Technologies
- Fulltime
MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY OF THE FUTURE
Health is the greatest good. To protect it, new technologies and more data are available today than ever before. As graduates, you are experts in the interdisciplinary conception, implementation and further development of the necessary scenarios in the healthcare sector. You will continue to drive the development of medical technologies and thus shape innovations in the healthcare sector.
What you can expect
Digitalisation has long been an integral part of healthcare and is fundamentally reshaping the technologies of diagnosis, treatment, and communication. In doing so, the health system faces major challenges: alongside economic and environmental requirements, issues such as data protection and the increasing emphasis on patients’ autonomy and capacity for informed decision-making are coming ever more sharply into focus.
Central to these developments are competencies in management and in the development of new technologies. In some fields, practice-ready solutions already exist; for most applications, however, the development horizon still leaves considerable scope. This is where your applied knowledge and ideas come into play.
About the degree programme
- Core disciplines: mathematics, the natural sciences, and computer science
- Foundations of medicine and human anatomy
- Foundational knowledge of hospital and project management.
- Advanced study and critical engagement with technical questions relating to medicine and health within the specialisation phase of the programme.
The programme occupies an explicitly interdisciplinary space at the interface of medical technology, computer science, and healthcare management. It prepares you to design and apply digitally networked solutions that are responsive to individual needs and ultimately advance patient care.
This programme is well suited to students who are motivated to contribute to technological progress in healthcare and to improve medical diagnostics and therapies over the long term. It particularly appeals to those who:
- are enthusiastic about working at the intersection of technology, computer science, management, and medicine;
- enjoy taking responsibility for planning and delivering projects independently, with a high degree of initiative.
You will engage with contemporary developments in areas such as robotics, data-driven medicine, and computational methods in healthcare. Alongside core principles of medical technology, you will develop a systematic understanding of how healthcare systems are organised and governed. The curriculum is underpinned by key engineering foundations—including electrical engineering, measurement and sensor technology, and programming—providing the technical depth required for practical application and innovation.
Understanding your own health:
You learn the most important medical terms and how to assess the effectiveness of therapies.
Understanding the healthcare system:
You become familiar with the basic structure of the healthcare system and gain an overview of health, healthcare management, and law.
Understanding, applying, and adapting medical technology:
You acquire in-depth knowledge of the wide range of measurement techniques and methods used in medical technology; you carry out projects in this field independently and are therefore well prepared for future developments in healthcare.
Applying and adapting information technology:
You learn everything needed for software customization and IT operations, and you independently develop smart health apps using various biosensors.
Understanding health data:
You work with all key healthcare standards and learn how healthcare institutions exchange and process data.
Managing projects:
You learn the basics of project management and can independently carry out projects in medical technology or eHealth.
Contributing to improvements in the healthcare system:
You prepare to drive improvements in the healthcare system—both technologically and organizationally.
