Implementation of module content in teaching and in the context of student work

(practical course, basic laboratory, project work, research work, final theses, etc.).

Analysing materials and products for their properties, compositions and defects.

Laboratory equipment

Destructive and non-destructive material testing (hardness, strength, toughness) and heat treatment. Computer-aided material development with ThemoCalc and Dictra. Sample preparation, microscopy, metallography, hardness testing, tensile and notched bar impact testing.

• Improving the low-temperature toughness of C-Mn steels
• Development of a concept for analysing the results of non-destructive testing of steel components in steam turbine construction
• Design and commissioning of a wear testing system for materials in abrasive molten metals
