HUMAN FACTORS AND GENDER STUDIES
Prof. Dr Sabrina Eimler’s research and teaching in Human Factors and Gender Studies are situated at the intersection of society and computer science, drawing inspiration from psychology, cultural studies and economics.
The interdisciplinary team she leads is guided by the idea that digitalisation can be human-centred and that human well-being, innovation and technological progress are compatible. Virtual and Augmented Reality applications are used to simulate future working environments – for example AI-based human–robot collaboration – as well as to design innovative teaching and learning settings and to raise awareness of gender equality and diversity.
International collaboration is a key component of the team’s work, for instance in the development of a virtual companion designed to raise young people’s awareness of toxic online content. At the same time, strong local and regional networks with industry and society in the Ruhr region play an important role.
Professor Eimler has been teaching and conducting research at the Institute of Computer Science at Hochschule Ruhr West in Bottrop since 2015. After completing her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Applied Communication and Media Science and International Business and Cultural Studies at the Universität Duisburg-Essen, she completed her doctorate in media and social psychology (supervised by Prof. Dr Nicole Krämer, Universität Duisburg-Essen). Her doctoral research examined the role of gender stereotypes in the production and reception of profiles in online business networks.
She is a co-initiator of the Research Institute for Positive Computing, serves as Start-up Representative at the campus, and acts as lecturer and driving force, among others, in the Master’s programme Innopreneurship at the Universität Duisburg-Essen. She is also a member of the Accreditation Committee at TU Kaiserslautern and actively involved in the Senate and Departmental Council of the Graduate School NRW.
