Person

Prof. Dr Peter Vogt combines ten years of professional experience in the construction industry with over a decade of teaching construction management at Hochschule Ruhr West in Mülheim.

In his teaching, he emphasises practical projects, digital methods, and diverse didactic approaches, aiming to prepare students effectively for the demands of professional construction practice. His research focuses include life cycle cost analysis of buildings and the integration of Building Information Modeling (BIM) with Lean Management.

Numerous scholarly publications, conference contributions, and textbooks attest to his active engagement in academic discourse. Prof. Vogt is committed to providing a forward-looking and practice-oriented education for future civil engineers.

During the lecture period, there is an opportunity to address concerns during in-person office hours. The dates are announced each semester during lectures and via the Moodle course rooms.

Since 2013, Prof. Vogt has supervised around 100 final theses as primary examiner at HRW. Typically, the topics are closely linked to practical applications, and ideally, the results or developed processes can be directly applied or further developed.

Generally, a Bachelor’s thesis topic arises from a practical semester in construction operations or construction economics. The secondary supervision is usually provided by the respective company. Complex Master’s thesis topics often stem from the module Digital Planning and Construction, frequently involving companies with specific research questions.

Special importance is attached to the initiation phase of a thesis: from an initial research question, a task is gradually developed with logically sequential sub-tasks. Approximately six weeks should be allocated for this process. Once the work phase begins, regular status updates and coordination meetings are mandatory.

Prof. Vogt has presented several teaching concepts at national and international conferences and workshops:

  • HDS.Forum Teaching, 4–5 November 2015, West Saxon University of Applied Sciences Zwickau
  • International Conference on Interactive Collaborative Learning, 25–28 June 2018, Kos
  • Day of Teaching, 14 November 2018, Hochschule Ruhr West, Mülheim Campus

  • 5th German-Chinese University Forum, 14–15 October 2019, Free University of Berlin
  • Exploration Day, 4 June 2025, Hochschule Ruhr West, Mülheim Campus
