This year's DAAD prize of 1000 euros was awarded to our international student Gabrielle Wijaya by Prof. Dr Simone Roth at the first semester welcome ceremony in the Stadthalle Mülheim.

Ms Wijaya came to Germany alone from Indonesia four years ago and is now studying International Business - Emerging Markets at HRW in her sixth semester. Thanks to her hard work and consistency, her very good grades enabled her to receive a PROMOS scholarship for her semester abroad in China, which she talked about impressively during the short interview on stage.

Mrs Wijaya concludes: "I am convinced that education can overcome borders. And I hope that my example will encourage others to realise that it is possible. That it is worthwhile. And that even the most difficult path can lead to something valuable."

With this award, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) recognises international students who have distinguished themselves through special academic achievements as well as remarkable social or intercultural commitment. Every year, the International Office invites nominations from HRW teaching staff and a selection committee decides on the award winner.
