Scientific Research Associates
Mentor and guide young people together with us on their path into professional life
We also welcome academic staff who actively support us in research and teaching.
They supervise students and provide guidance by imparting specialist knowledge and skills, particularly through projects, internships, and practical exercises. In some cases, they are also assigned duties in academic teaching.
In addition to research and teaching, the supervision of practical training sites, laboratories, and test rigs is also part of the daily tasks.
Section 45 of the North Rhine-Westphalia Higher Education Act (Hochschulgesetz NRW) describes the recruitment requirements and the employment-law status, in addition to the general provisions of public service law.
HRW qualification and professional development program
Through its qualification and professional development program, which is supported by the team for personnel and organizational development, academic staff at HRW receive support in their personal and professional development.
The program offers a high degree of flexibility and numerous options, tailored as closely as possible to the roles at HRW. At the same time, it provides clear structures and personal support through career development meetings.
A certificate for the completed qualification measures enables academic employees to provide evidence of the competencies they have acquired to future employers.
More detailed information about the program can be found on HRW’s intranet.
Fixed-term contracts and qualification for academic staff
The German Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz) provides the framework for fixed-term employment in academia.
An overview of the regulations of the Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act can be found on the website of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
Agreement on good employment conditions
"Universities and research institutions compete nationally and internationally for the best minds, both with industry and within academia. They can only win this competition if they consistently offer good employment conditions.” (Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia)
The agreement on good employment conditions for university staff includes, among other things, provisions on the change of employment for staff covered by collective agreements, probation periods when moving between universities under the responsibility of the state, part-time work, and fixed-term contracts.
