Focus on maintenance management, operational management of technical systems, digitalisation and internationalisation
Prof. Dr Karla Ohler-Martins has been a Professor of Industrial Services at Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences since 2017, primarily in the Business Administration - Industrial Services Management B.Sc. degree course. In her teaching activities, she focuses particularly on the areas of maintenance management, lifecycle management and data management of industrial systems. In addition, she is actively engaged outside the university in order to incorporate current developments in these specialist fields into her teaching.
In the field of teaching and research, she is particularly concerned with maintenance concepts, maintenance organisation, predictive maintenance, maintenance optimisation, digitalisation of maintenance and industrial services.
Before joining Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences, she gained ten years of professional experience in various positions within the steel industry. In her previous role as Head of Service and Processes, she contributed her expertise by participating in cost-optimisation projects based on Six Sigma. In addition, she supported the definition and implementation of project scopes, optimised the quality of industrial water supply and contributed to increasing energy efficiency.
Prof. Ohler-Martins completed her doctorate in metallurgy at the Institute of Ferrous Metallurgy at RWTH Aachen University in 2008, after completing her studies in process engineering at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio) in Brazil.
She is married, has two daughters and one son, and lives with her family in Wuppertal.
