Dr. Jörn Hohenhaus

On 1 March 2021, Dr Jörn Hohenhaus began his eight-year term of office as Chancellor of Hochschule Ruhr West. As head of the Service Division, the qualified lawyer (Dr iur.) is a member of the Presidential Board and is primarily responsible for the budget, estates and facilities, human resources administration, IT, the library and student services, as well as legal affairs.

Born in Detmold, Dr Hohenhaus brings extensive experience from public administration and higher education institutions. After serving as an Officer to the Executive Board and Managing Director of the German Association of University Professors and Lecturers (Deutscher Hochschulverband), he held various senior administrative positions at the Universität zu Köln between 2008 and 2016. Among other roles, he served as Head of the Financial Planning and Controlling Department, Special Representative of the Chancellor for the planning of major projects, and Deputy Head of the Appointments Office.

Alongside his professional responsibilities, he completed a part-time Master’s degree programme in Higher Education and Science Management and lectures at the Centre for Science Management in Speyer. From 2017 until February 2021, Dr Hohenhaus served as Chancellor of the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and as spokesperson for the Chancellors’ Conference of the art and music universities of North Rhine-Westphalia.
