Occupation:
Field of expertise: Regulatory Affairs in Medical Technology

Person

Carole Leguy has been Professor of Regulatory Affairs in Medical Technology at Hochschule Ruhr West since 2018. As an internationally oriented scientist, she has gained extensive experience in the field of medical technology. Currently, she focuses on new approaches to “serious games” in rehabilitation for physiotherapy and conducts research in biomedical engineering, with a special emphasis on cardiovascular biomechanics.

In 2017, Carole Leguy led an international research project at RWTH Aachen as part of a bed rest study commissioned by the European Space Agency (ESA). The study investigated the risk to astronauts of how movement restrictions affect vascular ageing, aiming to better understand this process.

Prior to this, she specialised in space physiology at the German Aerospace Center (Institute of Aerospace Medicine) in Cologne and at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada. She completed her PhD at TU Eindhoven (Netherlands). Her dissertation focused on developing new methods based on ultrasound imaging and patient-specific 1D/3D computational fluid dynamics simulations to improve prevention of cardiovascular diseases such as arteriosclerosis.

Carole Leguy is the recipient of two prestigious European fellowships: the Marie Curie Early Stage Research Fellowship and the International Outgoing Fellowship (IOF).
