Dr. Carolin Straßmann studied Applied Cognitive and Media Sciences (Bachelor’s and Master’s) at the University of Duisburg-Essen. She then worked at the Chair of Social Psychology: Media and Communication (led by Prof. Dr. Nicole Krämer) as an Academic Associate on various BMBF projects. At the end of 2018, she completed her PhD on the topic: “All Eyes on The Agent’s Appearance?! Investigation of Target-Group-Related Social Effects of a Virtual Agent’s Appearance in Longitudinal Human-Agent Interactions”.

Since April 2018, Dr. Straßmann has been working as a Teaching Fellow at the Institute of Computer Science, and since March 2019, as part of the state programme “Career Paths to University Professorships”, she has been gaining industry experience at celano GmbH.

Her research focuses primarily on the effects and design of virtual agents and social robots. She examines aspects such as appearance and non-verbal behaviour to optimise technologies for human needs. The vision of creating positive, helpful, and adaptive technology that contributes to societal wellbeing is a constant motivator in her work.
