"Expert in Renewable Energies and Their Integration into the Energy Transition"

Professor Dr Marcus Rehm researches and teaches how new energy systems should be structured and the direction in which the energy industry is evolving.

From the founding of Hochschule Ruhr West in 2009 until 2016, he led the Institute of Energy Systems and Energy Economics and was also the founding Dean responsible for establishing Faculty 1. This included shaping the Energy Campus Lab at HRW. Prof Rehm is a long-standing speaker at the VDI Knowledge Forum and regularly conducts foundational seminars.

Born in Heidelberg in 1966, Rehm grew up in Telgte and Mettmann. After studying Mechanical Engineering in Bochum and Aachen, he completed his doctorate at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) in Freiburg. During his time at Fraunhofer ISE, Dr Rehm was a visiting researcher at the University of Cape Town, South Africa.

He then moved into industry, working as a project manager at Borsig Energy, as an industry specialist at Sal. Oppenheim, and as a member of the management board at skytron-energy in Berlin. Before joining Hochschule Ruhr West, Marcus Rehm was Professor of Energy Technology and Energy Economics at the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen. Prof Dr Marcus Rehm is married, has two adult children, and is passionate about via ferrata climbing routes in the Alps.
