Prof. Dr Oliver Koch studied Economics with a focus on Business Information Systems from 1991 to 1997 at Philipps-Universität Marburg. He completed his doctorate in 2009 in the field of Business Information Systems with a dissertation entitled “Information Logistics Design for Context-Oriented Information Supply in Medical Treatment Processes”.
After completing his studies, Prof. Koch initially worked as an IT consultant at the international consulting firm Steria Mummert. He subsequently held positions in Strategic Corporate Development at TÜV Mitte AG and at the internet start-up infoball.
In 2003, Prof. Koch joined the Fraunhofer-Institut für Software- und Systemtechnik ISST. There, he established and led a department with a staff of nine and an annual third-party funding volume of over €1 million. The department’s research activities focused on information logistics, web-based telemedicine applications and mobile eHealth solutions (digital companions). Prof. Koch headed the Smart Health Lab at Fraunhofer ISST and served as Head of the Health & Care Business Unit at the inHaus Centre of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft in Duisburg. In addition, he was a lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences for Economics and Management (FOM) in Essen.
In January 2012, Prof. Koch was appointed Professor at Hochschule Ruhr West in Bottrop. His teaching and research areas include eHealth, Ambient Assisted Living (AAL), Smart Living and Business Information Systems.
